Vancouver Island Connection.

Port Hardy is a fairly small town but we found a good coffee shop to get breakfast, coffee and some sandwiches to take for lunch. As we were waiting to get on the bus a young man came up to talk to me. He was an Australian from Byron Bay and he lives in Nanaimo with his Canadian girlfriend. He heard our accent and wanted to talk.

Everyone here seems keen on wall murals. This one is about first contact in the 1750’s.

They had red dandelions!

The beach was beautiful though not much sand.

The trip down the island took 7 hours. We went past mountains, hectares of trees growing to be logged, lakes and small towns.

One of our brief stops was at Woss.

As we continued down the island the plant life changed as there is a gentler climate and they don’t have such harsh winters.

Nanaimo and the places nearby are seaside holiday towns much like the Mornington Peninsula.
