Starting our VIA train journeys

We woke to a cold and then rainy morning in Halifax. After breakfast and packing we had some time to kill so went and got a coffee in Brunswick St. Don is fine where ever we go as you really can’t make a bad espresso but I have resorted to having a soy latte! Not everyone has soy milk so I often miss out. We were going to walk down to the station but it started pouring so we had to get a taxi for a 10 min walk.

The Halifax station is big and echoes as there are few trains. The train we were catching from Halifax to Montréal seemed to be the only train going that day.

This map shows the VIA trains throughout Canada and we will be travelling on most of them.

Our cabin is compact. It has a toilet, a sink,  two chairs and two bunks that will be put down at night.

We lunch in the dining car at 1.00 pm as the train set off.

We went to the back of the train to the dome to see our surroundings. It was raining so much and the train was travelling so fast I couldn’t get any pictures of the trees. We stayed up there for quite a while as it is the only place in the train that has Wi fi.

We had a lovely dinner and have returned to the last car. It is comfortable sitting up this end of the train.
