River cruise

NOT SO MUCH A CRUISE AS A GENTLE DRIFT, PERHAPS. Today started with a walk around a small town on the Cher river, one of the tributaries of the Loire.

The cruise ran down to our next target, but lack of water due to a dam failure downstream restricted our movement although photo opportunities abounded. It just shows that not even the designs of Leonardo de Vinci, who spent his final years here and designed the system of locks and dams, can deal with all exigencies.

Catherine De Medici claimed this Château from Diane, the king's favorite, once the King died. She added two stories above the bridge for balls and displaying art works and so on-- as well as adding an entirely new garden.

We have seen many old tapestries -- mostly 17th century.

Catherine's garden!

And William, the name given to the bus by our driver Luca.

We visited the place Leonardo de Vinci spent his last 3 years. This is the view from his room.

He probably drew up many plans on this table.

His design for a tank.

We headed off to our first winery.

Our fellow companions waiting to taste the wine.

On the way to or hotel, we passed many fields of sunflowers.

Don's meal- a deconstructed fish terrine!
