Apart from references to Dickens, Disraeli etc, much of the interest was in the many old churches that exist hidden amongst the overshadowing office blocks. Even when the church may have gone, often the old churchyard is still there, sometimes incorporated into a parklet.

There was one old Victorian market which has been kept.
