We went up to Porthmadog for a wander and lunch, and then back down to Harlech.
After a steep and challenging walk up the road to the castle, we could see for miles around.
Karen elected not to stroll the battlements and brushed up on history.
Don conquered his fear of heights and struggled up dark, and sometimes dank, stairs to the battlements.
Karen felt a romantic Shakespearian feeling coming on, for some reason exhibited in a non-portrait fashion.
After thoroughly checking out that the castle was safe, and that no one would be able to breach the defenses without paying the prescribed entrance fee, we left.
We visited Helen and Phil's before quiz night. The views of Snowdonia are reportedly amazing, but today they were sadly missed ...
So visiting Phil's green house and checking out his apple tree grafts was more interesting.
No photos are permitted of the quiz night at the local pub, as Little Speckled Hens played a significant part. However it was the Little Women -- aka Karen, Vered and Sue -- who convincingly won the night, and the chocolate bars.
The lesson is: Cleopatra's Needle is indeed in New York.
