This terracotta fountain shows Queen Victoria and her dominions. You can see the Australia was characterized by a woman with sheep and wheat and what looked like a gold digger. Canada, India and South Africa were on the other sides. It was outside the People’s Palace a museum to the history of life of the people in Glasgow.
Lowri became involved in finding Oor Wullie throughout the museum. It is a statue of a laughing boy and they have many of them around Glasgow and in museums. It is somehow a fundraiser for various children’s hospital charities. Lowri got a passport and was lucky enough to be given a toy by a kind official.
After an earlyish lunch we retraced our steps to catch the bus again.
Back on the bus Lowri enjoyed being right up the front on the top deck. We continued the tour seeing places such as Central Station.
The wonky bridge- so called because it was built on an angle so that it did not interfere with existing buildings.
The Armadillo and the Rotunda which was the entrance for the first underground tunnel to go under the river.
We got off at the Riverside Museum. It had tall ships outside and all forms of transport inside.
They had created a street scape showing shops, businesses, and means of transport from previous times.
We saw trains, trams, boats, cars, motorcycles, wheelchairs, prams and many more. There were even toys such as Star Wars vehicles with a full sized stormtrooper, Hornsby trainsets and the original My Little Pony toys.
Out the front of the museum they had a giant sand pit for the kids to play in.
And what do you have at the beach? Ice cream of course!!
Oh no it seems to have shrunk Lowri.
And had the same effect on Rachel.
We finished the Hop-on Hop-off tour picked up the car and drove home for tea and an early night for once.
Ahh how wonderful to see your travels and your delightful beings. I’ve been at home moving out of the house the last 10 days and 2 more to go and sianara Cross street hello ‘no lease bound’ freedom! The weather has actually been stupendous and swimming and saunas have been keeping the muscles from siezing up from all the heavy lifting. My back is doing well and hasn’t kaputed yet but once we give the keys back and I get back to the farm on Wednesday I’m sure I will collapse into a multi day slumber... I had Sunday roast at 56a last night and we had spatchcock! First time everything, I miss you all and especially the under 30’s you have travelling with you sorry to say... and I’m very fond of that bum flap it looks a beauty. Travel onwards and upwards and I’ll see you whence you return. Love from the chilly down under and a soon to be no longer footscrayite. Loooovvvveeee! Mcduck
